How are agencies doing on accessibility? The short answer is not great. For digital agency owners, executives, and practitioners, there has been increased attention on digital accessibility (sometimes shortened to a11y) over the past few years. But out in the wild, it’s hard to see the impact.

Some welcome news for site owners, but don't change your accessibility strategy yet

In the year 2022, accessibility is slowly but surely becoming a baseline requirement for new website projects. Savvy businesses understand that prioritizing accessibility unlocks higher engagement and a better user experience for a significant portion of the population. And the number of private lawsuits (and demand letters) under the Americans with Disabilities Act against small and medium businesses continues to grow each year. But digital accessibility isn’t a core competency for the vast majority of digital and marketing agencies. New federal guidance is a huge milestone for digital accessibility and an improvement over the previous uncertain status quo. That said, we were disappointed that the contents of the guidance document falls short of what we would have hoped for.
